Our Soul

In my scripture study today, I was reading in 2 Nephi chapter 2. The end of verse 30 states, "I have no other object save it be the everlasting welfare of their souls."

At first this verse jumped out to me in the context of my family. Is the welfare of our souls my main objective, or am I more worried about having a clean house and warm dinner? Do I worry more about teaching Benjamin the basic principles of the gospel more than I worry about him wearing a shirt that is too big and doesn't match his pants?

Secondly I thought about how this applies to my service in the Primary Presidency. Is my main concern the welfare of the children's souls? Do I spend more time worrying about what I am going to wear to church and stressing about my bad hair day than I do about the children?

Third, there is so much power in this verse. If the prophets main objective is the welfare of our souls, how can we question the things he asks us to do?

  1. I also thought about how Heavenly Father and Jesus can say the same thing. But what about all of the trials and tribulations we have? Does God give us those for the eternal welfare of our souls?
